WHAT IS COACHING?

Coaching is a way of providing you, as the client, with the time and space to move from where you are now, to where you want to be.

Through coaching, I can challenge you on your limiting beliefs, help you to set goals that are both ambitious and realistic, and provide you with tools and strategies to achieve what you want in life.

Watch the What is Coaching? animation for more details.

I like to describe coaching as a β€˜professional’ relationship between you (the client) and me (the coach) where β€˜personal’ conversations can take place.

The professional bit comes in as it is not a casual conversation with a friend, the conversation is treated confidentially, and you can talk freely about any aspect of your life without any judgement.

The personal bit comes in as coaching allows you, as the client, to open-up about your feelings and experiences and what is troubling you.

Through my training with Animas, there are a number of models and techniques that I use within my coaching programmes to support clients with their goals.

There are similarities between a coaching session and a therapy session. For example, they both involve a private conversation between the coach/therapist and the client; confidentiality is critical; and it allows a safe place for the client to open-up about feelings and experiences.

Where therapy can often look back in your past and what happened to you, coaching is more based on how you are today and looking forward positively.

As well as my coach training, I also have a COSCA Certificate in Counselling Skills which has given me a grounding in the counselling professional. However, it is important to note that I am not (and would not pretend to be) a professional trained therapist. You can see a therapist and a coach at the same time.

I am open minded about who becomes a client of mine, and I am comfortable working with people from all backgrounds.

The types of challenges that my clients come to me with include:

  • mid-career professionals wanting to build confidence in their current roles, or looking to change careers;
  • those wanting to set-up their own business and looking for focus;
  • people who feel dissatisfied in and out of work and want somewhere to go to talk things through.

As someone who is part of the LGBTQ+ community, I am aware how many LGBTQ+ people are more likely to have mental health challenges.  Part of my practice is therefore about providing support to LGBTQ+ people through coaching.
